The excursion begins in the embarking pier located in "Bajo de las Sombras" port, about 6 km before the glacier Balconies- where you embark for a 10 minutes navigation across the Rico Arm, enjoying breathtaking views of the Perito Moreno glacier's front walls.
After checking the gear, we get ready, pick up the crampons and walk following the lateral moraine, for an hour and a half, until we reach the access to the glacier. After fitting harnesses and crampons on our footwear we start the ice trekking. There is a breath-taking view of the immense plateau of ice. During the walk you will be introduced to a number of features within the ice., huge moulins, crevasses, caves, and above all the special feeling of exploring the middle of the ice. Expert bilingual mountain guides will always lead you, looking after your safety and teaching you the "ways of the ice". You will hike for about 3 hours and a half, and spend some time having lunch somewhere on the ice. Back on the moraine we start our descent back to the port, to take the boat and navigate for 20 minutes, very close to the southern wall.
This is a unique excursion in Perito Moreno, in this highly protected area and with a team of expert guides. The Perito Moreno Kayak Experience is a full day adventure. The trip beings by taking a kayak before going for a ride in front of the spectacular Perito Moreno Glacier, at water level, with no engine but silence only broken by the ice calving. It is not necessary to have experience on the activity and the technical equipment is included. After an hour drive to the park we welcome to our lovely dome where our expert guides will explain the techniques of the activity and security measures with a warm up before starting our expedition on the kayaks, surrounded by outstanding landscape and mountains. We paddle in Lago Argentino and across the north side of the glacier, for up to two hours approximately (depending on weather conditions and physical conditions of the group) with the exceptional view of the Perito Moreno Glacier and the Parque Nacional de Los Glaciares. After the kayaking experience, we all return to our dome, where your packed lunch (meat or vegetarian Sandwich + petit four + fruit + beverage) will be provided along with hot drinks and snacks. You will have plenty of time to explore the magnificent UNESCO World Heritage site of Perito Moreno Glacier after your excursion and walk the dedicated footbridge for an astonishing view of the site. We reunite at the dome at 17:30 before to head back to town. It will take approximately one and a half hours to drive back to your hotel in El Calafate.Day 10: El Calafate - Buenos Aires (B)
