ITINERARY
Day 1. BUENOS AIRES

Arrival, reception and transfer to your hotel.

Day 2. BUENOS AIRES

After breakfast, enjoy an introductory private city tour with your knowledgeable guide who is also a local of the city. Buenos Aires is perhaps the most cosmopolitan metropolis in South America. Most of the population is of European descent and the city is reminiscent of Paris. It is situated on the Rio de la Plata, and as its name suggests, it is the city of good winds. The tour will include a visit to the Plaza de Mayo, the hub of the city centre and where many public buildings such as the Catedral Metropolitana can be found. At the east end, you will find the Casa Rosada presidential palace with the famous balcony from which Juan and Evita Peron greeted the masses.

After lunch (not included) your tour continues with a visit to Recoleta, one of the most fashionable areas of the city where you will visit the city's gardens of Plaza Alvear and Plaza Francia. You will also visit the famous cemetery where Eve Peron is buried.

Day 3. BUENOS AIRES (Breakfast)

A free day at leisure in Buenos Aires.

Day 4. BUENOS AIRES - EL CALAFATE PATAGONIA (Breakfast)

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the flight to El Calafate, located in Mainland Patagonia. Arrival and transfer to your hotel. We recommend the Kosten Aike. El Calafate is the site of the incredible Perito Moreno Glacier, one of the most dramatic natural sites left on earth. The Perito Moreno Glacier of Santa Cruz is a 60m (197ft) high river of rising, toppling and exploding ice, though it hasn't advanced for several years. A tour of the glacier with your private guide. You will also enjoy hiking on the actual Perito Moreno Glacier (under-55's only permitted). Those with a good level of fitness can now head much deeper into the glacier with a full-day hike. Peer into deep ice canyons, navigate your way along a frozen ridge, and try to grasp the sheer grandeur of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 5. EL CALAFATE - EL CHALTEN (B & D)

Today you will depart for the remote and unspoilt setting of El Chalten, with the marvellous Fits Roy range dominating the skyline. This area is regarded as the Torres del Paine of Argentina but far less crowded. Upon arrival in Chalten, transfer to your hotel. Free day.

We recommend the Lunajuim Hotel.

Day 6. EL CHALTEN (B)

Free day to enjoy trekking along the many fabulous routes in the region. We recommend one of the world's finest day hikes to Laguna Torre.

From El Chaltén you will trek to the base of the needle-shaped granite spire of Cerro Torre, a legendary challenge for mountaineers and rock climbers. The hike's pinnacle is on the shores of the blustery Laguna Torre, where the wind feels like it just may blow you over. Back in the shelter of the Fitz Roy River valley, you'll head back to town refreshed and exhilarated. Return to Lunajuim Hotel.

Day 7. EL CHALTEN- EL CALAFATE PATAGONIA (Breakfast)

After breakfast, return bus to El Calafate for your last night in Argentina.

Day 8. EL CALAFATE PATAGONIA - PUERTO NATALES (Breakfast)

After breakfast, private tour to Torres del Paine National Park in Chile. Known as Chile's showpiece: a world biosphere reserve with all the diverse scenery of Alaska in only 180,000ha (444,600ac). The Torres Del Paine are spectacular granite pillars which soar almost vertically for more than 2000m (6560ft) above the Patagonian steppe. Cascading waterfalls, sprawling glaciers, dense forests, and the chance to see Patagonian guanaco make it an incredible destination. The tour will finish in Puerto Natales Chile. Accommodation at the CostAustralis.

Day 9. PUERTO NATALES - PUNTA ARENAS (Breakfast)

After breakfast, private transfer to Punta Arenas in time for your flight to Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world, and capital of the province of Tierra del Fuego and transfer to your hotel. We recommend the Alto Andino Hotel.

Day 10. USHUAIA (Breakfast)

This morning you will enjoy a short city tour of the city including the End of the World Museum.

In the afternoon, enjoy a half day boat trip through the Beagle Channel with a visit to Sea Lion Island and the southernmost Argentinian lighthouse. Return to your hotel.

Day 11. USHUAIA - TIERRA DEL FUEGO NATIONAL PARK (Breakfast & lunch)

After breakfast, a full day excursion to the Tierra del Fuego National Park. This sub-Antarctic forest covers the entire region and is located up to 600m above sea level. A visit to Lake Escondido with mountains at the foot of Paso Garibaldi offers a unique view in an environment of supreme beauty. There you start your descent and after 40 km. you arrive at the head of Lake Fagnano, an imposing lake of international fishing renown. It is the largest lake on the island, over 100 km. long. The tour will end with a round trip tour on the 'end of the world' train travelling through the National Park itself. Return to your hotel.
